Pressure instruments utilize a variety of sensing technologies to measure pressure accurately. Mechanical deflection methods—such as diaphragms, Bourdon tubes, and bellows—rely on flexible or elastic elements that physically deform in response to pressure changes. Some devices use sealed pistons or cylinders for this purpose.
Strain gauge-based sensors measure pressure by detecting the deformation of a larger structure to which the gauges are attached. Piezo resistive sensors detect pressure-induced changes in electrical resistance, while piezoelectric sensors are designed to measure both dynamic and quasi-static pressures by responding to pressure-induced electric charges.
Modern pressure instruments also incorporate advanced technologies like microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), variable capacitance sensing, and vibrating element designs, offering high precision and reliability across a wide range of applications.
